David Phillips

David Phillips is veteran Internet executive, entrepreneur and business lawyer. Since 1994, David has held leadership & executive positions with AOL/AOL Europe, Napster/Bertelsmann, IGN/Fox, and NaturalPath Media/Six Apart (SAY Media).

David was the founder and CEO at NaturalPath Media, the largest (comScore) green network acquired by Six Apart in 2009. After the acquisition, David served as a strategic consultant to Six Apart before its merger with Video Egg to form SAY Media in late 2010.

Prior to NaturalPath Media/Six Apart, David served as EVP of Corporate Strategy and General Counsel at IGN Entertainment (Fox Interactive), where he focused on corporate strategy, M&A, strategic partnerships and law. During his tenure, IGN bought and/or integrated six properties, filed for a public offering, and increased its valuation from $30M to $650M before its sale to Fox Interactive Media.

Before IGN/Fox, David served as the SVP/VP of Music Services at Napster, and CEO of London-based Crunch Music, an early pioneer of Europe’s digital music sector that was backed by Nomura and acquired in 2001 by Music Choice, PLC.

David Joined AOL in 1994 as their second lawyer and later became General Counsel of AOL Europe. He was appointed President & Managing Director (MD) of AOL UK in 1999. As UK MD, David oversaw the integration and management of AOL UK after its acquisition of CompuServe UK. He also led development and launch of Netscape Online UK, AOL’s first subscription-free service.

Prior to AOL, David served as General Counsel of ComTech and was an associate at the DC law firms of Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan, Lovells) and Cameron & Horbostel.

David is a graduate of University of Chicago Law School and Pomona College in California.
