David Hale is an emerging technology and social media evangelist at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health.
He is project lead for SemanticTwitter, which focuses on semantic and natural language processing of H1N1-related Twitter posts for biosurveillance, determination of public sentiment, and targeted information dissemination.
Mr. Hale is also the project manager of Pillbox (pillbox.nlm.nih.gov), an NLM/FDA patient-safety initiative which mashes federal pharmaceutical data sets and high-resolution images of solid-dosage medications, utilizing imaging techniques developed by the Pillbox team. The entire project (images, data, imaging standards, software, and graphic assets) will eventually be placed in the public domain.
He is leading NLM’s entry into various social media channels, such as Twitter and SlideShare.
He is a frequent speaker at conferences, most recently Medicine 2.0 Congress and U.S. Pharmacopeia’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
Mr. Hale’s background is in physical science, as well as photography and digital content creation.
