Well known as an IP Communications visionary and leader, David has 20+ years of experience building and managing consumer and enterprise communication and messaging systems at companies such as Microsoft, Thomson Reuters and Skype. David has authored several international standards and books on IP telephony. He is currently CEO of Symphony.
While at Skype, David Gurle was VP President and General Manager for Skype for Business and ran Skype's Enterprise business division responsible for product development, marketing, sales and operations of Skype's offers for individual business users and enterprise customers.
Before joining Skype, David worked for Thomson Reuters, where he served as its Global Head of Collaboration Services and Head of its largest business in Asia, the Sales & Trading Business Division. During that time, he built the team which was responsible for all the business and product development and support functions of Thomson Reutersâ€™ Collaboration Services business and was responsible for increasing the Reuters Messaging community size to more than 350 million users.
Earlier, David spent more than three years running Microsoft's Real Time Communications business, a group that he founded. While at Microsoft, David co-authored several Internet Engineering Task Force standards for presence and instant messaging for SIP.
Prior to Microsoft, David was Corporate Vice President, Business Alliances at VocalTec, the IP telephony pioneer, where he established and managed partnerships with a number of Tier I telecommunications service providers and hardware vendors, including Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and Marconi. He also spent time at ETSI, France Telecom and started his career at Digital Equipment Corporation. David has also co-authored a number of books on VoIP and IP Telephony.
He graduated ESIGETEL with a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Telecommunications.
