Dr. Daniel Kosoy joined Athenian Venture Partners in 1999 as a senior biomedical venture consultant, and became a partner of the firm in 2000. He has 13 years of experience in venture capital focusing on Healthcare, including biotechnology, bio and specialty pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics. Dr. Kosoy also has experience as a biomedical technology consultant working with small and large biotech and pharma companies. He has a broad network in the Healthcare industry, rooted in San Diego and Southern California, and extending to the San Francisco Bay Area, Ohio and the Midwest, Boston, New York, Durham, the UK and Israel. He serves in both director and observer observer roles on the boards Akebia Therapeutics, LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals, and Baxano Corporation; and previously Archemix and Verus Pharmaceuticals.
Prior to his career in venture capital, Dr. Kosoy trained as a physician and surgeon, specializing in transplant surgery. He has been in Medicine for over 20 years and still practices. He holds a California medical license, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Kosoy earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Philosophy with studies in Molecular Biology from Yale University, and his Medical Doctor degree from McGill University.
