Dan Birdwhistell is an entrepreneur and writer based in Washington, DC. He is currently the Founder and CEO of Studio Publishing, producers of the largest Facebook-based content network. He is a graduate of both Cambridge University and Washington & Lee University and was a Truman Scholar and Gates Cambridge Scholar.
Prior to founding Studio in 2010, Dan worked extensively in the Facebook Platform space, first by founding and managing Bigsight.org, which was the first site to successfully port user data from Facebook. Bigsight was subsequently acquired by a reputation management company after it became one of the central people directories on the web. Dan continued work on the Platform as the Creative and Analytics Director for SocialCash, which through late 2009 was the leading third-party advertising network for FB developers.
In addition to his Internet work, Dan is an avid researcher and has worked alongside Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi to study how individuals can cultivate happiness and creativity in their daily lives. Most recently he completed a two year study of “Good Work†in the context of higher education, which was presented as a paper at the American Education Research Association’s annual conference.
Dan began his career at McKinsey & Company as a Research Fellow at the firm’s European Knowledge Center.
