NEW YORK, NY (October 27, 2010) – FITNESS magazine announced today that it has named Christie Griffin as Digital Director. Griffin will be overseeing editorial efforts on fitnessmagazine.com as well as helping execute brand strategy across all FITNESS digital projects, including mobile, apps, and tablet editions.
“We are thrilled to welcome Christie to the FITNESS team,†says Betty Wong, Editor-in-Chief of FITNESS magazine. “Her extensive background in the web space will definitely bring new energy, ideas and innovative thinking to our digital properties.â€
Prior to joining FITNESS Griffin was the Senior Web Editor at Cosmopolitan.com. During her time at Cosmopolitan, she led the editorial efforts to relaunch the site in 2007—the first redesign in seven years—and since then unique users and pageviews for Cosmopolitan.com nearly tripled. Griffin also was part of a small team that worked on Cosmo Mobile, which won a 2008 Webby in the Entertainment category, beating out other mobile sites like Bravo and Disney.
Before her five years at Cosmopolitan, Griffin was a website editor at cosmogirl.com. She has also worked on the print side of Cosmopolitan and CosmoGIRL! Griffin got her start in magazines by writing for fitness-minded publications like Inside Cheerleading, USA Gymnastics, and Dance Spirit. She was a contributing author to the book “Cheerleading: From Tryouts to Championships†(2007) and interned in the media department for the USA Gymnastics Federation, a branch of the Olympic Committee.
Griffin has a B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University and is based out of Meredith’s New York offices, at 375 Lexington Avenue.
