Chia-Lin Simmons is the VP of Marketing & Content for Harman International (NASDAQ: HAR). She is responsible for global marketing, content and marketing business development, content programming, product marketing and customer support for the company’s connected service call Aha by Harman. Aha is the “4th band” of radio for over 40+ models of vehicles globally, bringing together global interactive content from partners such as Yelp, Deezer, Slacker, Rdio, CBS Radio Network, 8Tracks, TripAdvisor, INRIX and more. Simmons launched this new “connected car” brand via mobile, print, radio and broadcast advertising with partners such as Pioneer, Honda, Acura, Subaru, Scion, Mazda, etc.
Prior to joining Harman in 2010, Simmons was the VP of Marketing and General Manager of Playphone North America. She was responsible for the strategic direction of marketing, business development, product marketing, operations and customer support for the U.S. and Canada for this startup with over $100 million in annual revenue. As a marketing and business development executive with more than 17 years of experience, she has led successful marketing, business development and product marketing efforts in wireless, mobile devices, e-commerce, and emerging technology units for a variety of companies in the digital media industry. Simmons has held key positions with companies such as AOL / Time Warner, Audible (an Amazon company), WIRED, CNET, Beyond.com, Newscorp, and other digital media brands. She managed partnerships with social media companies such as MySpace and Facebook, successfully launched her first wireless business in 2005 and was responsible for global strategic partnership and marketing programs with companies such as Amazon, AOL, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, Palm, SanDisk, Creative, Garmin, Best Buy, Amazon and other major mobile handset, consumer electronics and online/offline commerce companies.
In her spare time, Simmons is the co-host of a weekly podcast call On Digital Media (www.odmcast.com). The podcast covers the technology, creation, distribution, consumption and monetization of digital media and its effects on traditional media and marketing. The ODM podcast counts as its listeners numerous technology, digital media and traditional industry executives from companies as diverse as Nokia, P&G and Morgan Stanley.
Simmons graduated Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from U.C. San Diego and received her MBA from Cornell University, where she was a Park Leadership Fellow. She also has a JD from George Mason University School of Law and is a licensed New York attorney.
