Chad was born in central Massachusetts and raised there and Atlanta, GA. He studied economics as an undergraduate at Rice University, where he received his BA in 1996. He received a masters in business administration from Columbia Business School in 2002. He is also a CFA charterholder, completing the program in 2000.
His early career was spent in the investment banking sector. He shifted to the energy sector, co-founding Black Oak Capital in 2003. Black Oak is an investment fund focused on the electricity and natural gas markets.
He has been a member of the New York Angels since 2009, where he focused on investments in the energy / cleantech, consumer products, and financial technology enterprises.
