Bill Maris

Bill founded Google Ventures in 2009.

GV is one of the most active investors in new ventures with $1.2 billion under management and over 225 portfolio companies. The fund’s early track record includes investments in pioneers like Uber and Nest; IPOs like Foundation Medicine, RetailMeNot, and Silver Spring Networks; and exits to industry leaders like Facebook, Twitter, and Yahoo.

Bill believes the future will be an amazing place. In every sector from life sciences to transportation, exponential increases in computing capacity are opening doors for advances difficult to comprehend today. The most exciting and surprising progress will come from risk-taking startups. Bill and his team designed GV to find those startups and help them get the job done.

Bill studied neuroscience at Middlebury College and conducted neurobiology research at Duke University. He founded and sold web-hosting pioneer Burlee.com and was an active angel investor. At GV, his investments include Nest, Uber, and 23andMe.
