Bela is an accomplished technologist, entrepreneur, and business advisor. Prior to joining High Peaks, Bela was the Director of Rensselaer Polytechnic Instituteâ€™s Incubator Program, where he led the internationally recognized program in identifying, creating, and growing new technology ventures and commercializing university-developed technology. He provided management assistance to over 40 companies in the areas of capital acquisition, growth strategies, and general business principles. Prior to joining the Incubator Program, he led the turnaround and eventual sale of a sporting goods manufacturer where he served as president and CEO.
Bela has founded two venture-backed companies and has held senior management and technical positions at the corporate research labs of IBM and GE. At IBM, he served as Technical Assistant to the Vice-President of Research and then managed the successful spin-off of IBM technology, serving as co-founder and president of a computer-guided robotic surgery company. He raised over $17 million in capital and positioned the company for a successful IPO in 1997. Prior to that, he was a researcher at GEâ€™s corporate R&D labs in Schenectady, from which he spun off another venture-backed technology business.
