As Global Strategy and Marketing Officer for Bank of America, Anne Finucane leads corporate-wide public policy and marketing strategy for the company. In that capacity, she directs constructive engagement with elected officials and policymakers in the United States and around the world on global and domestic policies, current and proposed legislation and other public affairs affecting Bank of America, the financial services industry, and the U.S. and global economies. Finucane also leads Bank of America’s marketing and advertising, communications, and research divisions, and oversees the company’s major public commitments, including the largest community development and investment goal ever established by a U.S. financial institution ($1.5 trillion over ten years) and a 10-year, $2 billion philanthropic giving goal.
After a 14-year stint at advertising agency Hill, Holiday, Finucane joined FleetBoston Financial in 1995, where she served as Chief Marketing Officer until 2004. That same year, Finucane was named Bank of America’s Northeast President in which she was tasked with fulfilling the bank’s charitable, community development and lending and employment commitments in the region following the bank’s $47 billion acquisition of FleetBoston Financial. In 2006, after adding philanthropy and public policy to her leadership responsibilities, Finucane was promoted to Global Chief Marketing Officer, a role that added brand management, advertising, research, corporate communications, and community development to her duties, while retaining her Northeast President responsibilities.
FINANCIAL REGULATORY REFORM
As the financial industry faced the mounting U.S. credit crisis, Finucane formulated and directed the company’s approach to managing the complex public policy issues that confronted Bank of America and the nation’s major financial institutions. In 2008, she testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act and Bank of America’s participation in the Treasury Department’s Capital Purchase Program. In 2009, Finucane helped lead the bank’s repayment of $45 billion to the U.S. Treasury as part of the company’s participation in the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), with billions in interest to U.S. taxpayers. Later that same year, she established a Consumer Policy executive office at Bank of America to regularly engage consumer and community groups and ensure their concerns about banking and other consumer policy issues would be heard at the bank’s highest levels. Today, Finucane continues to direct significant and constructive engagement with the Obama Administration, key U.S. Congressional leaders and policymakers in the United States and around the world on new regulation of the financial services industry.
