Andy Tong is a Venture Partner at Webplus Ventures an early stage venture captial firm with a focus on digital, gaming, mobile and technology investments.
Prior to Webplus Ventures, Andy was CEO and founder MMOABC.com, a leading MMO games portal, social network, and game publisher for gamers from around the globe. In 2007, Andy raised seed capital through angel investors and within less than one year grew MMOABC.com into the 2nd most prolific portal for MMO gamers in North America with millions monthly visitors through creative marketing strategies, evangelization, and aggressive business development efforts with strategic video gaming partners.
Prior to MMOABC, Andy served as Head of Business Development for PacificNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: PACT), a leading provider of Asian gaming products and gaming technology for land-based and online gaming operators with over 1,000 employees spanning the United States and China. Andy initiated and spearheaded the gaming division business to deploy PacificNet products in Cambodia, China, Colombia, Philippines, Macau, Russia, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam. As a result of Andy’s business development efforts, PacificNet’s was able to establish itself as leading provider of gaming products throughout Asia, including Macau. Prior to PacificNet, Andy served as CEO of North America for Beijing PowerSpace Technology Development Co, Ltd., a leading online games development firm with over 100 developers that developed a variety of online games for publishers in China, Taiwan and the United States. Under Andy’s leadership, PowerSpace completed five online game titles (that are commercially available in Taiwan). From 2002-2006, Andy held non-executive information technology roles at various companies such as The Union Bank of California, Time Warner, California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, and Vivendi Games.
Andy is recognized as a video games, gaming, marketing, and social media expert and frequently consults industry leaders, investors, startups businesses, and the media. Andy has been featured in the media through channels that include AlwaysOn, Beckett Massive Online Gamer, Developmag, GamersHell, GamesIndustry, GameSpy, IGN, Shacknews, discussion panels, and game blog/portals (Google search: “Andy Tong, MMOABCâ€). He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems from the California State Polytechnic University of Pomona.
