Alexander Stojanovic

Alexander Stojanovic is currently Chief Scientist and General Partner at Frost Venture Partners, LLC., a Venture Capital firm based in Southern California. He focuses on guiding the portfolio of companies poised on transforming enterprises with cloud-scale technologies and services. His areas of expertise include cloud programming platforms, scalable analytics with Hadoop, mathematical programming and combinatorial optimization, and semantic indexing and classification for hypermedia.

For the previous decade, Alexander worked as General Manager and Product Architect of several industry-impacting projects. He was the founder, architect, and general manager of the group responsible for HDInsight (Apache Hadoop for Windows Azure and Windows Server). He drove the BigData Open Source Strategy around Hadoop and developed a high performance distribution of Hadoop tuned for the multi-tenant Platform as a Service (PaaS) environment of Windows Azure. He drove engineering, key partnership development, and business strategy for the team within the Server and Tools Division at Microsoft. Alexander founded and managed a peta-scale predictive analytics startup as part of the Windows Azure platform. He was founder and architect of the Microsoft Solver Foundation, a .Net/CLR-based system for mathematical programming and combinatorial optimization used in significantly boosting profits for Microsoft’s online advertising division (adCenter/Bing), System Center Data Center Edition, and Dynamics ERP systems. He designed the core Internet-scale data access Java and Javascript frameworks for Microsoft (RDS/SOAP and ADO for Java). Alexander founded and managed teams that delivered enterprise-focused semantic indexing and probabilistic search for Microsoft SQL Server 2012. This work embodied his strong interest in semantic search and automated classification, statistical learning theory, and probabilistic logics in pursuit of a transformational “Internet of Things”.

He worked at BEA Systems as Director of Engineering for the award winning WebLogic Integration 8.1 product suite for Enterprise Java (J2EE). His professional career began with designing and implementing distributed and real-time analytics systems in C++ for the financial services industry.

Alexander studied at the University of Belgrade and is a graduate of Santa Clara University (BA with honors, 1990).
