Alex Lopez-Ortiz

Alex Lopez-Ortiz is Chief Scientist of Discovery Engine. Lopez-Ortiz leads research and development at Discovery Engine. He joined Discovery Engine from the University of Waterloo, Ontario where he was a tenured professor in the Computer Science department.

Lopez-Ortiz joined the University of Waterloo, Ontario in 2001 as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department. In 2004, he was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor. Prior to that, Lopez-Ortiz was Director of Research at InterNAP Network Services. Previously, he was Director of the search engine group at internet pioneer Open Text Corporation, which introduced the web’s first full-text search engine in 1996.
