Adrian Scott / Ryze
Adrian Scott is a serial entrepreneur in social media who helped pioneer the development of social networking. He is now founder and CEO of a new startup, CoderBuddy.
He founded Ryze Business Networking in 2001, the first of the Web 2.0 social networking sites, which influenced Friendster and others. Previously he co-founded of Flycode/Applesoup, which raised nearly $4 million in funding from Silicon Valley and Hollywood investors after the dotcom bubble burst.
He was a founding investor in Napster, and angel investor in Buydirect.com and Giganet, both acquired by publicly-traded companies.
He has advised startups including Starmine, acquired by Thomson Reuters, and Plaxo (informally, acquired by Comcast).
He has provided consulting to Bank of America’s Global Markets Group, Charles Schwab & Co. Institutional, Forward Funds / Reflow (Gordon Getty), Match.com, Hewlett-Packard and others.
He studied sales force management and Cantonese at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and did research at Japan’s RIKEN Gene Info Bank in Tsukuba Science City. He received the General Carl A. Spaatz award as a cadet colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, the USAF Auxiliary. He received a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship and Rensselaer Scholar Fellowship, and was the youngest known Ph.D. recipient from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He has also sang with Placido Domingo, performed with the New York City Ballet, and acted in a Sundance Film Festival Int’l Drama Competition selection feature film.
