Aaron Burcell is a marketing professional with product and customer acquisition expertise. Hired by Gazillion CEO Rob Hutter to launch Gazillion’s SmartyCard, Aaron spear-headed the customer acquisition and awareness efforts with media partners BetaWave and Scholastic. Additionally, Aaron heads SmartyCard’s outstanding media relations unit and has been building word of mouth marketing programs across networks of bloggers and independent media producers focused on women’s issues, education and parenthood.
As the CMO of Boston-based Utterli from June-Nov 2008, Aaron worked closely with founders Paul Gagne and Michael Bayer to re-launch the struggling Utterz micro-blogging service and create the sustainable media property now utilized by large enterprises like eBay, RedCross and Whole Foods for a variety initiatives requiring multi-channel, multimedia group communications.
As the VP of marketing at Jangl in 07-08, Aaron applied his background in consumer marketing and strengths in start-up operations, business development and fund raising during the transformation of Jangl’s subscription and licensing business.
In prior positions, Aaron was one of the first five employees at PodShow, heading up marketing and communications in 06-7. Burcell led all outbound and product marketing efforts at Stata Labs (acquired by Yahoo) from 02-04. Aaron was a co-founder and partner at Alterlayer, a sweat equity firm that consulted and invested in a broad array of Silicon Valley-based startups from late 1990-2002.
Aaron started his career in marketing communications and production at WebTV and Microsoft’s WebTV (1996-1999). Burcell is a graduate of Stanford University, majoring in Political Science.
