The company started with capital from 4 founders, and after 7 months, received investment from 2 seed and early-stage funds: Bolt Ventures (former Mountain do Brasil), and 500 Startups, an arm of an international publishing group (Macmillan Digital Education) and an angel investor (Nicolas Gautier).
The same investors made a follow-on investment one year after the first capital injection in the firm, as a sign of confidence and trust in the potential of the Brazilian ed-tech startup.
Veduca started helping to popularize the OpenCourseWare movement in Brazil, by putting Portuguese subtitles in video lectures from foreign top universities and by bringing together open courses from the best local universities in the same platform. Then, in June 2013, the company launched the first massive open oline courses (MOOCs) in Latin America, in partnership with professors from USP and from UnB. Later in 2013 Veduca launched the first open online MBA in the world, the MBA in Engineering and Innovation. MOOC based, the course offers content for free to anyone with an internet connection and interest in the subject, and also provides a paid program for candidates for a certification, valid and recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
The launch of the MBA in Engineering and Innovation marks Veduca's first unprecedented initiative on a global scale.
