One of the UK's largest daily newspapers founded in 1855 by Colonel Arthur B. Sleigh. The first edition of the newspaper appeared on June 24 1855. Canadian newspaper man Conrad Black took over the newspaper in 1996, and in 2004 it was acquired for £665m by David and Frederick Barclay.
In 2006 the company name The Daily Telegraph was changed to the Telegraph Media Group, to reflect its move into technology and other media. Telegraph.co.uk is one of the top news sites in the UK and is now spreading its coverage elsewhere around the globe. Launched as the electronic telegraph at 15 November 1994 it was Europe's first online news portal.
Ian MacGregor was named editor of the newspaper in February 2014 after serving a month in an acting capacity.
