- Tasktop develops Mylyn, Tasktop Dev and Tasktop Sync to provide software lifecycle infrastructure in task management and synchronization.
Over a million users employ Tasktop’s ALM integration technology to transform the productivity of software delivery, by connecting the development, testing, Agile planning, project management and operations functions into a unified software development and delivery team.
Organizations have worked hard to create a tool infrastructure that will make all members of the software development and delivery team more productive. They’ve invested in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools such as Requirements Management, Test Management, Agile Project Management, Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) and Service Desk products.
But when it comes to sharing the artifacts they create, business analysts, product managers, product owners, developers, architects, testers, system administrators, project managers, Scrum masters and help desk professionals all find their work stuck within their tool silos. The result is a lack of visibility and traceability that has become the main bottleneck on effective software delivery. This lack of integration and insight into software delivery has become the main bottleneck for adopting new solutions, modernizing the lifecycle, and delivering software at scale.
Our flagship product, Tasktop Sync is the market-leading Software Lifecycle Integration bus. Sync provides real-time, fully automated, enterprise-scale synchronization among the artifacts created and managed within the disparate tools used in software development and delivery organizations. Tasktop Sync works in the background, keeping the flow of information among the practitioners and their tools, constant. Everyone works in their tool of choice, but has real-time access to the changes and activity streams other team members are making in their tools of choice. Practitioners are better informed and save time. The organization has end-to-end traceability and management has greater visibility across the entire project team, providing information for better decision making and planning.
Tasktop Dev is our enterprise version of the popular Eclipse Mylyn open source project. Our founder, Dr. Mik Kersten invented the notion of a task-focused IDE when doing his PhD research in developer productivity. He created and leads the Mylyn project as a result of that work. He founded Tasktop to create a more enterprise-scale, fully supported version of Mylyn: Tasktop Dev. Dev provides users of Eclipse and Microsoft Visual Studio IDE seamless access to their ALM tools without having to leave their IDE of choice. Our experience with this client-side integration gave rise to Tasktop Sync, a server-side integration solution.
Through this work, we’ve developed unparalleled experience with all aspects of software development and delivery, including in-depth knowledge of the panoply of tools enterprises use to manage this lifecycle. We’ve codified this knowledge into a semantic model of the software lifecycle that is unique in the industry, providing Tasktop Sync a distinctive foundation for integration.
Given our independent nature (we don’t compete with any ALM tools or their vendors), we’ve established ourselves as a neutral party between all of the adjoining and competing tool vendors, home-grown solutions, and open source projects. Not only do we have partnerships with most of the leading vendors in this space, we’re proud to have established OEM relationships with most of the leading vendors in this space, including CA, HP, IBM and Serena.
We’ve learned to connect legacy tools with the latest SaaS tool offerings, connecting the past with the present. We’re pleased to be in a unique position to be well-regarded as ALM experts by our customers, partners and the industry at large. Our thought-leaders are often sought out to speak at conferences and to contribute published works.
All this experience has led us to define a new category of software practice, Software Lifecycle Integration (SLI), to fulfill our mission to “connect the world of software delivery.”
