ShowNearby's mission is to empower the world to answer this simple question: “What’s nearby?â€
ShowNearby is founded by Douglas Gan and Lee Changjin in November 2007. They had a startup capital of $30,000 and got its first angel round in February 2008. The angel round gave financing up to $500,000 but the duo only took up $200,000 amidst the recession.
Braved thru the .com bubble in 2000, SARS in 2003 and the financial crisis in 2008-2009, Douglas Gan, at the helm of ShowNearby, lifted its company from its maiden crisis.
ShowNearby was one of the early adopters of Android, by late 2009, ShowNearby on Android was the #3 application globally, beating Facebook, Twitter and the likes, trailing behind Google Maps and Google Earth.

By late September 2010, ShowNearby launched its first BlackBerry version and within a short span of 1 month, it has won the BlackBerry Super Apps Challenge's Regional Selection.
