Lenovo Group Limited is a Chinese multinational technology company that sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software, and smart televisions. In 2012, Lenovo was the world's second-largest personal computer vendor by unit sales. It markets the ThinkPad line of notebook computers and the ThinkCentre line of desktops.
Lenovo has won hundreds of technology and design awards, including more than 2,000 patents, and introduced a number of industry firsts. With headquarters in Beijing, China, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States, the company operates in more than 60 countries and sells its products in around 160 countries.
Lenovo was founded in Beijing in 1984 and incorporated in Hong Kong in 1988 under its previous name, Legend. On February 14, 1994, Lenovo was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and became a constituent of the Hang Seng China-Affiliated Corporations Index, often referred to as "Red Chips." Its major rivals include DELL, Asus, and Acer.
