Hampton Creek is a technology company headquartered in Northern California that focuses on identifying plants that can be used to make food healthier, more sustainable, and more affordable. Its approach is to apply machine learning to plant biological data to create predictive models for product development. Hampton Creek has a mission to make it easier for everyone everywhere to make better food choices, and is backed by Li Ka-shing, the wealthiest man in Asia, Khosla Ventures, Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, Eagle Cliff Partners and the Collaborative Fund, among others. The company was founded in December 2011 by CEO, Joshua Tetrick.
Hampton Creek was chosen by Bill Gates as one of three companies shaping the future of food and was selected by Popular Science for the 2013 "Best of What's New" Grand Award. It was also selected by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of its 2014 100 Brilliant Companies and by CNBC for its 2014 Disruptor list.
Hampton Creek's first product is a mayonnaise called "Just Mayo" which is currently on shelves nationally in Safeway, Whole Foods, Dollar Tree, Target, Kroger, and ShopRite, as well as select Costco warehouses across the United States. Hampton Creek works with four manufacturing partners across America: in Tennessee, Washington, and two in Southern California.
The company has a team with various backgrounds including biochemistry, molecular biology, food science, culinary, data science, and engineering.
