This journey has it’s origins in the personal hydration problems of some of the co-founders. Their CEO Panu has always been heavily involved in sports but has often neglected hydration. Panu felt tired and powerless. COO Tappi used to drink 15 cups of coffee each day, but hardly any water. Just imagine the headaches. After talking to a lot of people, the guys realized that they were not alone with the problem. So they gathered a team and set out to develop a solution. In Fall 2012, when they got invited to pitch and show off their very early prototypes at Slush, Northern Europe’s biggest startup conference, it became clear that they had something special. From there on it has been a fast paced adventure, eventually leading the team across the Atlantic in NYC to live and build their startup.
You might also wonder how their first product, The Hug, got it’s name. Well, when their designer was creating the form factor for the sensor, he was thinking of his two small kids back in Finland and how it feels to hug them. It made him feel good, just like substituting water for coffee did. So he designed the sensor to embrace the water bottle, and also have a friendly personality. Hugs, just like proper hydration, can help you feel better!
