Tall Oaks Capital is a team of experienced entrepreneurs, managers and investors. As such, we are able to employ a pro-active, long-term investment strategy that leverages both our individual strengths and our firm’s resources. Because of our company-building skills and experience, we can and we do focus our efforts towards helping our partner entrepreneurs create highly successful businesses. We do so by emphasizing capital efficiency, critical risk mitigation and timely milestone achievement.
Tall Oaks focuses on the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern U.S. We maintain a ‘right-sized’ fund and actively seek both seed and early stage investments; our seed stage efforts include supportive arrangements with three of the leading research universities in this region.
In our investment opportunities, we look for components of these three characteristics, which we believe are necessary to build extraordinary companies: Management – it is critically important to have the right people in the right job, and we recognize that one of our essential responsibilities is to help our partner entrepreneurs build their teams; Market – the product(s) or service(s) must represent significant innovation and fulfill a critical need within a large potential or existing market; and Technology – the company must hold a proprietary and defensible position through either its intellectual property estate or its deep technical know-how.
