Essec has become the first French management school to launch a seed fund.
The Essec Ventures 1 seed fund totals €500,000 and will be used to finance start-ups developed within the school’s incubator.
Two companies which have originated from within the school have already been financed - after a rigorous selection process involving the school’s alumni and faculty and also business professionals - an online business to business tracking service and a company specialising in advertising on video games.
The seed fund marks a new point in the school’s commitment to entrepreneurship.
As part of Essec’s MBA programme, the school offers a range of entrepreneurship courses, with 50 per cent of students opting for these topics. The school has also established an incubator to provide fledgling entrepreneurs with logistical support and strategic advice as well as the services of a network of professionals.
In the coming academic year Essec intends to extend its entreprenuerial activities to include both research into the subject and the creation and recovery of companies.
