The CalCEF Clean Energy Angel Fund is a seed and early stage venture capital fund dedicated to clean energy. The Fund deploys deep industry networks and experience to support capital-efficient companies focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, and related products and services.
The Fund typically invests from the proof-of-concept though to product release (i.e pre-revenue stage). However, the Fund also consider companies with revenues where they are still developing the technology or product. Historically, syndicates size has ranged from $500,000 to $6 million.
The California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF) created the Angel Fund as the founding Limited Partner in 2008. Fund I is a private for-profit venture capital limited partnership. Limited partners include pension funds, wealth managers, funds of funds, foundations and a number of experienced angel investors.
