Zvents

Zvents is an events search technology company that makes it easy for people to find out about events that may be going on in their local metropolitan area. The company was founded in March 2005 to discover events in the Bay Area, but has since expanded to include information about events in other cities as well. Zvents has also partnered with media organizations including the San Jose Mercury News, Boston Globe, Denver Post, and others by providing these publishers with the Zvents Media Platform. This platform provides publishers with an effective local event aggregator as well as an opportunity to increase advertising revenue and cross-site traffic. Zvents’ technology is very unique. In the industry, any competitor is equally a partner. The largest U.S. Local search directory, YELLOWPAGES.COM is Zvent’s latest example of how we foster synergy in local. Local city sites such as LA.com and SFGate are powered by Zvents, and they are constantly exploring other iterations of local search: Oodle, Krillion, or Boorah, as potential partners.

The Zvents Media Network is comprised of more than 250 newspaper publishing and media partners, including some of the nation’s largest media companies such as The New York Times Regional Media Group, Freedom Interactive, The McClatchy Company, MediaNews Group Interactive, Morris Publishing Group, and North Jersey Media Group. Individual properties include LA.com, The Boston Globe, Detroit News, Denver Post, San Jose Mercury News, and more.

Traffic from the Zvents Media Network grew 800% during 2007, and is projected to grow to over 12 million unique visitors a month by the end of 2008.

Zvents allows people to find out about local events going on in a particular metro-area. It acts as a search engine (searchable by event, date, and geographic area) where you can search for specific things to do or just browse categories of local events. Besides local events, Zvents also provides local information about movies, venues, and restaurants. Zvents is free and can be used without signing up for an account, but registered members have the ability to join groups to share event information with others and also add events to the site. Since the site was originally founded to provide information about local events in the Bay Area, it is most comprehensive for Bay Area local events. However, Zvents is expanding its database by city and currently has a lot of information for events going on in other major US metropolitan areas as well.
