Zazzle

In 1999 Robert Beaver and his two sons founded Zazzle.com, a service which enables users to create their own products. Zazzle.com users can create virtually anything, from customized t-shirts to postage stamps. Users can also recieve a commission on products that they sell and design themselves. Zazzle is funded primarily by Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Sherpalo Ventures, who in 2005 provided $16 million in seres A funding.

Major competitors include Cafepress, and Goodstorm. However, Zazzle’s patented color print technology allows them to manufacture multicolored items, especially t-shirts and other clothing items, for pennies at a time.

Zazzle.com makes it easy and relatively inexpensive to produce a variety of different types of products. Not only do customers have hundreds of products to choose from, but they also have access to many different symbols and designs, including Disney figures and other movie icons that can be put on any item.

In addition to creating customized products for yourself, users can become contributors by sharing their unique creations in the Zazzle galleries. Users can earn up to a 17% commission every time someone purchases one of their designs.

Zazzle’s marketplace already has a lot of products created by users. Click here to see the items that are currently the most popular.

We're leaving Zazzle, after 5 YEARS. We've had the same customers order products from Zazzle & Cafepress. Their impressions WERE that Zazzle was more professional & that the products were better quality all round. That was in the early days, when you couldn't make much money on Zazzle. But our customers preferred them, so we stayed. But the past 2yrs with Zazzle has been all downhill. They're suffering an acute identity crisis, customer service is almost non-existent, policies are indiscriminant based on individual employee agendas, there's no follow through, no accountability & worst of all - they've been stealing from artists (in direct VIOLATION of our contracts) for over a year. Neither the Referral Program nor the Affiliate Program has ever worked properly. Which wouldn't be so bad, if it evened out while they worked on it. It doesn't, & they won't. Bonuses are withheld & "fees" are DEDUCTED from our checks every month - but they're never PAID to us. These are facts, not opinions. If you're thinking of using Zazzle, read the forums. But again, despite the violations & the theft & the worsening of their treatment of artists, as long as our customers were happy, we gritted our teeth & stayed. Well - that's over. When you're being cheated every month, disrespected & disregarded, AND your customers are ticked off, its past time to go. That quality service, printing, professionalism, communication etc that they used to offer customers is apparently GONE. It's such a shame. IF they would ever get their act together again, IF would roll everything back to say 2yrs ago, before they started stealing & put the emphasis back on quality & service, we would (& have) wholeheartedly recommend them. They USED TO BE wonderful; but we wouldn't recommend anyone get involved until they get their house in order. There's definite trouble coming down the road. And no - we're not shills for Cafepress, they're a bad deal too, for different reasons.

We've been using Zazzle for over 2 years now. We've never had a problem with them, so I'm real surprised by all the negative comments here. We buy a sample of almost everything we sell to see the quality. No problems. Perhaps people need to check their artwork? We had no problem returning a shirt that was too small. I will admit that 1. I think it's funny that Firefox is a partner when we find it easier to use Safari to post our products. And, 2. I think shipping costs are high - probably because they have different vendors printing different things. It's like ordering used items from Amazon - you have to pay shipping on each product. I hope they'll work to get shipping costs down. Maybe then more people would buy.

I ordered some cards for my bridal party. The order claims to have shipping 4/24 but as of today 5/12 I still do not have the order. They claim that I chose UP to 12 days for shipping. Even shipping from overseas doesn't take this long. As of today at 18 days, 12 business, no order arrived. VERY unhappy as these were ordered for a dinner planned for my bridal party and children. The order now has to be trashed. When you order and they claim it has shipped, don't believe it. It's 100% impossible to take this long with any shipping method. Will not order again from this company.

I have been trying to get Zazzle to re-issue a check they sent to an old mailing address of mine at the end of 2008. No response. No responsibility. I have posted the entire email exchange for my readers here: http://www.themeparkadventure.com/westworld.htm

I ordered Obama tshirts for Valentines day, was told they would arrive more than ten days ago, tried calling but the 1800 number doesn't work from Canada. Sending an email hasn't produced any results. I am frustrated that there has been no action and no responsibility taken.

I used Zazzle today for the first time, and it was a horrible experience. The worst thing is when a company has no idea how to provide customer service. They took my order for 3 items, but one of the items i uploaded was copyrighted. Instead of stopping the order on the one bad item, they cancelled the entire order and just didn't bother to tell me about it. They emailed but it went into my spam folder, and so my son's birthday went without his present. When i called them, they defended their practices, they argued and blamed me. Zappos would never act like this .... this is a great interface, but a horrible service and company. STAY AWAY.

I have been a zazzle customer for a couple years now and have ordered products in a few of their different categories: t-shirts (dark), calendars, and greeting cards. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of product as well as the customer service and will continue to use them for my customized personal items that I need in the future.
Jouni - June 11, 2008 at 10:11am
Tried to order my items with my own design, but they would not print my elves. They claimed on the phone "elves" infringed copyright with "Elvis" and they "can not print celebrities". The so-called customer service ended up getting nothing else done but waste my time.

Working with CafePress is better, especially when you have a Premium Shop. So far I could not earn much at Zazzle.com, though I offered the same products as in CafePress, which brings in more sales.
Zazzler55811 - February 14, 2008 at 10:02pm
Yeah I like Zazzle at the moment. It seems easier to use than CafePress, and you can instantly post what you want to sell... ...however, I am confused. How am I going to receive income if they didn't ask for my SSN? How does that all work?

I Think Zazzle Rocks! What A Great Way to be Creative and get paid, without a great deal of investment income!! Try It!! You May Be Like Me And LOVE It!! Good Wishes to All!!

I think it's great that some people have had good experiences with Zazzle. I myself am just greatly, greatly disappointed. I'm SO disappointed, in fact, that I've deleted all my keychains from our Zazzle gallery because the quality of construction is so poor. I've also deleted all our tees because they consistently print poorly. I'm just not comfortable having our company name on a product that prints badly. It's especially bad when the prices are sooo high - and then you add shipping costs on top of that and you're paying twice as much as you should be for a product that's sub-par. The quality of their other products is okay. I've ordered several cards, postcards and prints from them and didn't feel the need to return them. HOWEVER, the printing isn't perfect. I've also ordered cards from another site called Greeting Card Universe. I compared the cards from GCU side by side with the cards from Zazzle and the quality was slightly better on the cards from GCU... AND the GCU cards are half the price of the Zazzle cards. As time goes on, I'm just more and more convinced that Zazzle is not the place for me. I'll stick to POD sites that I know are ethical, have good prices and quality printing and products. A word of advice to potential Zazzle customers: research other sites before you give Zazzle your hard-earned cash. Sites like Red Bubble, Greeting Card Universe and Good Storm have awesome prices, customer service and quality.

I have had nothing but the best customer service and have been a customer for years. I ordered my holiday cards and stamps this year, I got them on time. Maybe people should plan a head like I did and not order stuff the week before Christmas. Zazzle Rocks.
Amber - January 11, 2008 at 12:50am
I have only been a contributor on Zazzle for about 6 months now. So far I don't have any major complaints. I was actually impressed with the quality of my mugs, calendar, and postcards. However, I agree with the shipping costs and the time it takes for receipt. I ordered Christmas presents the weekend before Christmas with the expectation that I would get them that next week and I didn't get them until Christmas Eve. One gathering was the 23rd, so I didn't have my gifts for that family Christmas. Hopefully Zazzle will continue their quality that I have enjoyed and speed up their shipping time to better serve their customers. Otherwise, shipping needs to be cheaper if time is going to continue being longer. Check out my site and let me know if you have anything special you would like to see made.

I am flabbergasted at the comments that have been submitted by disgruntled Zazzle customers. I have been a loyal Zazzle customer for past two years. I have not had any major problem with their quality of work. But when there have been problems, customer support employees have addressed my concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Lorie - January 9, 2008 at 10:56pm
I'm so fed up with Zazzle I can't believe they even got nominated! Sure, they look all sparkly and fun on the outside - until you actually get involved with them. They have terrible quality control, pathetic customer service, NO concern or respect whatsoever for their artists (which is how they make their money) and their focus has recently seemed to shift to branching out into new prospects - which is the LAST thing they need to be doing! There are so many bugs within their interface AND in their other processes, they have NO business sucking other people in until they fix the stuff that's already wrong. Nearly everything I have ever ordered from them had to be returned for a re-print or a refund. Their shipping costs are ridiculous and their '24-hour turnaround' is a joke. There are much better POD sites out there to work with AND order from.

They will not get my vote either. When I started with them years ago they were fine. Since they did their upgrades in the middle of last year everything has gone down hill there. Quality is poor, no customer service, and they do not listen to their artists concerns, but keep promising they will. I just ordered a print and it had 2 terrible lines running on the bottom and the left side. The top and right side were white. They had to be cut off as they looked like filmstrips. Aweful. Then I got a morphing mug, it was designed backwards. Their shipping is terrible too. I used to love that place, and it is unfortunate what happened there. When they have glitches it takes forever to get them fixed too. Their new models versus just showing the tee as before makes your design look distorted. Not a happy camper there anymore.

Ordered merchandise for Christmas, paid extra for speedy delivery. Got merchandise for someone else. Tracked them down and mailed their merchandise to them. They got merchandise for a 3rd party. 2 unanswered emails to ZAZZLE, and no one answers the phone. I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER, and still don't have my merchandise.
