Xoom

Xoom is an international money transfer service that allows users to transer funds from its website to others who are off line and in other countries. The services is a viable alternative to PayPal when you hit some of PayPal’s limitations such as overseas transfers.

Xoom transactions do not require bank accounts on either side. Also, Xoom allows your to transfer your PayPal funds where PayPal itself can’t. Fees range from around 4% for small transactions to 1.1% for large ones. It’s a reasonable rate compared to others, but nothing to brag about.

Xoom has currently raised a generous $50+ million in 5 rounds of venture capital. Appropriately, Sequoia Capital’s Roelof Botha is a lead investor in Xoom and a member of the board. Botha served as the CFO of PayPal before he moved to Sequoia and has made investments in this space before.

RE: Marvin Hey Marvin, I smell a shill here - all the people with bad experiences can't be all liers ... perhaps you have a "product" to plug here huh? I use WU and it's flawless - would even try xoom - not gonna get ripped off by some dodgy outfit.

Really bad when used in assosiaton with PayPal. They say paypal refuses to pay at the begining of the transaction but it leaves it debiting for your account. No matter how many phone calls or emails I made they still let the debit from paypal happen. It is pretty much theft. If you don't want to throw your money away don't deal with Xoom

WORST SERVICE EVER. I WONDER HOW THEY ARE ABLE TO STILL FUNCTION IN US I sent money to India through Xoom but my mother could not pick up the money at the pickup location as mentioned in their website. When called they asked us to pick up the money at a different bank far from home. SO DONT TRUST THEIR WEBSITE claims.

It makes sence ,Julio 11/23/08, is saying, whether this message was written by xoom. Xoom's wikipedia site, (must be written by xoom) is boasting like; article at Motley Fool: that xoom is Nasdaq exchanged xmcm stock, but the article is from 1999, before the dotcom bust and xmcm doesn't exist in any stock exh, busted?? probably, but what is xoom today? They are advertizing heavy in tv in IL and cannot be a black hole. Has anybody exp's from the longer time?, multi transfers, Colombia, Panama? Any money totally evaporated? Reading only complains here, assuming from language style there might have been some other issues as well (like mine, nubudy is poifect). Thanks for the comments.

Don't ever use Xoom! I used it to transfer money from my credit card account to my China bank account, both sender and receiver are the same name, as I can not use my foreign credit card in China, but the transaction was cancelled within 2 mins after I submitted my order, I then send email to ask them why they cancelled my transaction? They replied that they detected a secured issue, I am just wondering what issue they detected while I send my from my own credit card account to my China bank account??? I had no access to my foreign bank account and no idea whether the money has been debit from my credit card account!!!!! Do not use this company for money transfer I sincerely recommended that!!!

I sent money to Zoom to be paid in India on 17th Dec.2008.I think it is the fastest organisation to send the money since my party has not received although it is almost a month. No explanation given for the delay except that are checking. I donot find their higher authorities to whom I should complain.

I tranfered $750.00 through Xoom for an airline ticket and hotel reservation on Dec 8, 2008. They took the money from my account Dec 11, By Dec 23 my travel agent still didn't the money. My reservation was susequestly cancelled and lost. I still do not have my money back. NEVER USE XOOM!!!!!

I don't recommend this courier to anyone in the world. they are just going to use your money for their own interest. My mother died before she could use the money and the money still hasn't reached her. (She passed away a week ago.) The transaction was done on December 26, 2008. I'm just wondering if the company uses the money before it gets to the recipient. Their reason for it was that they needed the approval from the FDIC, when they already took the money from my account on December 29, 2008.

I send my money the 28th of Dec for my family, I got email it was ready to be pick up the same day. It took them three attempt until Jan 2, 2009 they finally release the money. First , they said not there on Dec 30, second, the bank teller said it is the wrong tracking number which is impossible because, I email them the tracking number, And finally, Jan 2, 2009 they got the money and the teller admitted she made a mistake on here tracking number she typed. She did not even apoloziged but told him it is ok because she not going to jail for her mistake. Ok xoom need to change their motto "Send Money now and it is Available when we feel like releasing it.

I was thinking to use this web, but after reading those reviews I wont. So, If you Xoom wants that we use your service; you should clarify those issues. Otherwise nobody will use your service.

I was told the money I sent to the UK arrived in the required Bank Account on 12-11-08. This money still is not in the UK account and today is 12-29-08. The response is that according to their records the transaction is complete. Beware anyone wanting to send money this way. I will fight this until I get satisfaction. Shameful way for a company to behave.

Very Bad - November 29, 2008 at 1:30pm
I paid for premium Standard service to be transferred in 1 day or less. I am now on day 2 and still no transfer and NOOOO customer service responses. Never again!
Julio - November 23, 2008 at 9:02pm
I've been using Xoom for almost 2 years know, and it has worked wonderfully for me; mind you, I use my US checking account to originate transfers. The first three transfers took almost 1 week since they use the US Automatic Clearinghouse System (ACH) which is run by the US government, so until they actually receive your money they wont release it, and that is understandable, even though your account gets debited immediately. But after three times, your account goes into the "known customer" category and takes only 15, max 30 minutes to get deposited into my overseas account. Their fees as the lowest in the market to boot.

I wish I had read these comment first. I am having doubts already. They seem to have messed up a simple transfer to England - by saying getting authorization/please check the number of the recipients bank accout. And after providing it to them again I hear nothing! Should we get the Office of Fair Trading involved?
Paul - November 10, 2008 at 4:08pm
I agree with Pepe's comments above. I only used Xoom after Ikobo shut down and the first time I used Xoom to send money to Canada they messed up. Xoom were paid from my Paypal account in double-quick time but some 8hrs after the money left my PP account it still had not reached the recipient in Canada. When I track all I see is 'Transfer Delay' and replies to my emails contain no substance even tho they admin there is an error. A VERY poor customer experience.I have had to log a dispute with PayPal, the first time I have had to do this.

I used xoom.com to transfer money to colombia and never done the transfer... long time to get my money back one month and still running I think the money has loss ....
Pepe - July 14, 2008 at 11:51am
Xoom.com provides the WORST ever service to transfer money internationally. Their slogan "SEND MONEY IN MINUTES" is false. It has taken more than 12 days for them to validate my checking bank account before funds are available to my recipient, but obviously, they didn't take too long -less than 12 hours- to debit my account after I provide them with all my bank account details. They kept my money (only a few hundreds) for almost 2 weeks. For a few hundreds, the interest shouldn't be too much during half a month, but I wonder how much money(millions) they keep at no interest from other people. I pay thousands, a HELL, in interests for money borrowed PER DAY, but these people are making profits at no cost. I would strongly discourage anyone to use Xoom. Better alternatives like WESTERN Union are out there. Think TWICE before you engage your money with them, at least until they advertise SEND MONEY IN WEEKS!
