Varnish Software is the commercial entity behind the open source web accelerator Varnish, powering web sites like Facebook, NY Times, and many other of the biggest web sites in the world.
The Varnish project begun in 2005 as an idea within VG Multimedia, Norway’s largest online newspaper. Initial development was done by VG Multimedia, later Redpill Linpro did further development on the project. In 2010 Varnish software was spun off from Redpill Linpro.
Varnish Software sells service contracts, training and management software directly or through partners.
