SONAR Diagnostic

StageLive

A game-changing business intelligence tool that harnesses real-time social network analysis for organisation change and restructuring programmes.

Every day executives leading organisational change and restructuring programmes make critical decisions without complete information. Plenty of intelligence is available on formal elements such as divisional headcount, reporting lines and financial performance. But no reliable intelligence is available on informal factors such as internal social networks, the key people sustaining each customer relationship or business units that are poorly integrated with the rest of the organisation. Informal factors of this kind are decisive impact on performance. Failing to take them into account leads to poor strategic decisions and unexpected negative consequences.

SONAR Diagnostic fills this gap, providing detailed analysis on a host of invisible organisational factors. Executives can visualise an entire enterprise plus all its customer and supplier relationships; zoom in to a single customer to examine the mesh of contacts and relationships; filter down to isolate the three employees most central to that relationship; select one of these employees to see their relationships, their network scorecard and their top expertise. As well as this powerful visual interface for line-of-business executives SONAR Diagnostic also includes a statistical tool for specialists in organisational network analysis (ONA). This generates standard ONA metrics including in-degree, out-degree and network centrality plus the ability to run “what if” scenarios modelling the impact of divesting a business unit or losing a key executive.

SONAR Expertise

A new kind of enterprise search that connects you directly to people with relevant knowledge and expertise.

Large enterprises have chronic difficulty harnessing the value of expertise picked up by employees through their day to day work. IBM research concluded that 80% of employee expertise is unrecognised and cannot be exploited. Everyone who’s worked in a large corporation has experienced situations where they required an answer to a domain-specific question and knew there were people in the business with the answer, but had no way to identify the right people. This leads to duplicated effort where research is conducted multiple times, reduced performance where decisions are made on incorrect information, and to lost business where people with relevant experience don’t contribute to a proposal.

Standard enterprise search products find documents. SONAR Expertise finds people with relevant expertise and knowledge. Newly-gained expertise is automatically identified each day by analysis of emails, documents, wikis and other information. Employees are alerted weekly of new expertise identified from their communications and offered options to prevent sensitive or private topics becoming searchable.

Results can be viewed as lists, filtered by geography or role. There is also an option to present results as a graphical visualisation indicating each person’s level of expertise and inter-connections. Details are synchronised with LDAP contact data so once the right person has been identified a user can contact them by email, phone or instant messenger without any switch of context.

SONAR Expertise is designed for installation alongside an existing document-focused search technology. Using the SONAR API customers can connect SONAR to a single “federated search” portal if this is the desired solution.
