| Description | GPS based audio guide |
Tourism Radio is a unique audio guide, that fits into a hire car and uses GPS technology to tell listeners about the area they are travelling through.
Tourism Radio was founded in South Africa in 2005 by tourism professional and entrepeneur, Mark Allewell. Tourism Radio was born out of a desire to meet the needs of independent tourists who want to explore an area, without a conventional tour operator but who still want to fully experience the region they are travelling through. Since it’s inception, Tourism Radio technology has constantly been reviewed and upgraded.
After a documentary about Tourism Radio was aired on the Discovery Channel, a Swiss/Spanish venture capitalist bought the business and head office was moved from Cape Town to Barcelona.
Since the take over in 2006, Tourism Radio has expanded to various locations around the world, namely Barcelona, New Zealand and Namibia, as well as a number of pilot projects in Northern Ireland and Hawaii, USA.
Tourism Radio broadcasts location based information, informative radio shows about a country’s history, culture, language and general information that a tourist would like to know. Tourism Radio broadcasts music and their unique “Intellipoint” system. A feature that will interupt any broadcast to draw the listeners attention to a landmark or highlight as the car approaches it.
Tourism Radio is commited to providing accurate information to tourists as well as enhancing the travel experience of their users.
