thoughtbot is a software consulting firm serving internet startups. Formed in 2003, thoughtbot is based in Boston and is privately owned. Everyone at thoughtbot codes.

They are one of six consulting companies recommended by the Ruby on Rails core team and offer monthly Rails training.

They wrote and maintain open source software projects such as Paperclip, Factory Girl, Shoulda, and Clearance.

They run web services for developers: Airbrake (formerly Hoptoad), Copycopter and Trajectory.

They are also responsible for the umbrellatoday.com and stocknames.info social experiments.
