Technorati is a search engine service launched in June 2002 by founding CEO Dave Silfry. The service allows you to find the most relevant results on all media including blogs, photos, videos and audio files. Technorati used to focus solely on blog search results but have opened up to all media given that more mainstream users are using its service.
In May 2007, Technorati completely re-designed their home page to respond to their more mainstream users. They now have a single search box instead of using search types like keyword search, tag search and blog directory search. Results are returned in categories like videos, blogs and music.
Technorati’s competitors include Google, IceRocket and Feedster.

The WTF tab on the Technorati home page is a page that allows anyone to try and explain why any subject he or she chooses is so popular. Once a WTF has been written on a specific topic the Technorati community can vote if the explanation is a good one or not. The page tracks recent WTFs and hot WTFs, which are WTFs with high votes.
