Teamer uses text messaging and email to solve the headaches of organizing your sports team.
Formed in Dublin, Ireland in September 2008, Teamer was developed to enable team organizers automate many of the tedious tasks involved in organizing a sports team. The service integrates closed loop sms technology with standard email functionality to enable an organizer reach all players whether they are online or not.
While email will allow a team organizer to communicate with a certain percentage of team members those who are not by a computer each day can interact with the service over their phones. They receive event notifications and can respond with a simple Y or N which is then captured and updated on the teams private page at the Teamer website. This gives the organizer an up to the minute assessment of how the team is shaping up for the next game or training session.
Teamer includes some additional features to automate team management. Organizers can set up their teams so that standby players are automatically called up in the event that a member of the original lineup can’t make the game. Also Teamer’s one click cancellation will send a broadcast to all players over sms/email if a game has been canceled, this can also be triggered from the team organizers phone if they are not convenient to their computer.
Teamer also has a blog for each team where players can interact with each other as well as a photo gallery for posting images of team events.
The service has chosen a freemium model where all site functionality and all communications (sms/email) for the team organizer are free. For those players who wish to avail of the convenience of receiving and replying to their notifications over sms, they are charged a $1/month subscription billed directly to their phone that can be canceled at any time.
Teamer has added 85,000 users in the UK and Ireland since its launch in September ‘08 and had 40,000 unique visitors in April ‘09. The service has recently received certification from all major US phone carriers to begin operating in the US market.
