Taunt Media was established in Vancouver, BC, Canada on January 1st, 2008, and was founded by Nick Bouton. Taunt was created in order to sponsor, develop, and nurture several community-driven collaborative web site properties in a variety of fields.
Taunt Media’s first project, Protagonize, is an interactive fiction site that was launched in late December, 2007.
Taunt Media has several other sites in development, including bevvie, a “a social drink guide where users can browse a database of cocktails, martinis, and other mixed drinks”, and reroller, a “online gamer-oriented social networking tool aimed at bringing together players of various types of massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs)”.

Protagonize is a collaborative writing site based on the concept of ‘branching’ – that is, adding onto and finishing each other’s short writings. For example, one popular story is entitled If You Go Down into the Woods Today… , which is then led on by other authors into variant options. Some stories have 10-20 branches that spawn out into their own stories. It seems to appeal to an artsy, creative writing crowd.
