| Description | Live smartphone photos on a map. |
Tackable is a social network based around live, smartphone photos on a public map. People take photos of the visually interesting things they encounter, which they submit to the public map in real-time. People who log onto the map see little, live windows into every corner of their city. Power users create photo assignments, directing the actions of the crowd.
Tackable will launch in 2011 in partnership with 48 newspapers in the U.S., and the national broadcaster in Australia. Reporters at those organizations will have the ability to create their own photo assignments, which will be completed by their readers, listeners and viewers. In return, those news organizations will promote Tackable to their audience, as a real-time information resource.
Tackable is currently incubated inside the San Jose Mercury News.
