Switchme is a 100% New Zealand owned and operated electricity comparison website.

Their aims are:

1. To provide customers with up-to-date information about the New Zealand electricity industry.
2. To provide customers with a free, easy-to-use and unbiased pricing comparison engine that allows customers to evaluate all electricity retailers and plans.
3. To allow customers to easily and quickly sign up to their chosen electricity retailer online.

The New Zealand electricity industry is complex. It involves complex relationships between generators, retailers, lines companies and Transpower. This sometimes results in complex billing calculations, which make it difficult for the average New Zealander to calculate an accurate comparison.

Further to this, there are a number of different types of electricity meters installed around the country, meaning most pricing plans won’t even apply to you.

Switchme have standardised all pricing plans and meter types, which means you can compare “apples with apples” when evaluating prices.

Their price comparison engine uses a complex calculation to provide you with a list of pricing plans and electricity retailers that apply to you. The results page allows you to sort by any column heading, which means you can make a choice based on price, retailer or plan type.
