StyleHop is a fashion rating site that asks users to browse and rank their favorite outfits by playing interactive fashion games. StyleHop’s aim is to the fashion destination for unbiased wisdom-of-crowd consumer advice and industry analytics.

Unlike in the travel or book industry, consumers have not found much value in reviewing or ranking fashion. Women haven’t found it worth their time because there are so many styles, they have such short lives and each style addresses a relatively narrow consumer segment. StyleHop has come up with a creative solution to this problem: online games. StyleHop is creating lightweight social games and quizzes that allow women to participate socially around fashion and shopping. Most importantly, their fashion games will prompt women to provide a five-star ranking for each style presented. Playing StyleHop games will create the star ranking data that feeds StyleHop’s shopping engine and helps consumers shop styles based on the product rankings of people just like them.

Stylehop is creating an affiliate shopping engine that is filterable not only by brand and product attributes but also by who you want providing your five-star rankings. Targeting college women, one can imagine the value in knowing what the local trends are on campus before arriving as a freshman in the fall.

StyleHop’s low-cost access to highly screened, predictive fashion consumers will allow them to sell fashion companies wisdom-of-crowd demand forecasting. Today fashion companies rely almost exclusively on individual merchants to determine which styles to produce and in which quantities. Merchants’ ability to predict consumer needs accurately has the single greatest impact on the profitability of an apparel line. It is their inconsistent qualitative judgments that drive the wildly erratic financial results prevalent throughout the industry.
