Snooth is a social network, recommendation engine and shopping site all in one, that revolves around wine. It is not unlike sites such as Last.FM, which reveal new content to you based upon the content that people with similar tastes enjoy.
Users make profile pages and begin to rate wines they have tried. After having rated five wines, the recommendation engine kicks in. Because of the way recommendations are calculated, the more wines you rate and the more ratings there are in total on the site, the better your recommendations will be. If you like rare wines, your recommendations will be limited on Snooth, just as if you like obscure indie bands and use Last.fm.
Presumably, many of the ratings on Snooth will have been made by wine sommeliers thus making recommendations truer to the actual flavor matrix of the wine itself, rather than the questionable taste buds of average wine enthusiasts.
Snooth doesn’t sell wine directly, but provides links to third party wine merchants who have your favorite vintage in stock.
