ShopSavvy is best known for its mobile app that allows consumers to scan barcodes to find the best deal from local and online retailers. Founded in 2008, ShopSavvy was the first mobile shopping application that incorporated barcode scanning as its primary search mechanism. The app got its start on Android after winning Google’s Android Developer Challenge in the summer of 2008.

Powering the mobile ShopSavvy client is a powerful comparison engine called PriceNark 4. In 2008 ShopSavvy acquired Textbook Trader, a niche price comparison engine, and expanded its capabilities to allow for live local inventory and pricing.

The company generates revenue through its advertising framework called AdOns. AdOns allow advertisers to target consumers at the highest point of purchase intent based on their location and the product they are about to purchase. These UPC+GPS powered ads come in several forms including: coupons, rebates, warranties, games, Facebook ‘Like’ programs, app promotion, targeted video and loyalty card integration. Integrated with QuickPay, the company’s mobile wallet, AdOns allow for easy and immediate conversion.
