Being of the philosophy that pre and post reel advertising is obsolete, ScanScout created an advertising product that places unobtrusive advertisements within streaming video while it is playing. To do this ScanScout floats small ad links on the bottom of a streaming video which do not block the picture nor distract the viewer. These links are matched to the video content with ScanScout’s targeting technology which works by creating “algorithmic intelligence” about videos and users’ watching behavior. ScanScout is thus able to place relevant ads at anytime in the duration of any video. Because ads are not mandatory to watch (as pre reels are) ScanScout does not put a time limit on ads from their clients. When ads are clicked, advertisers have an option of having a video ad played directly in the media player or having a new window open. Once an ad is clicked, your video content is paused saving you from being forced to re-find your spot. Adbrite is a competitor, with Google testing similar advertising methods on YouTube.
