Sandbox, which was founded in 2003, launches new businesses and invests in seed-stage software and tech-enabled businesses. Sandbox is also one of the founders and investors in Excelerate, a summer-long boot camp to help entrepreneurs build great companies by providing them with mentors, customers, and investors.

The firm also has an exclusive relationship with Blue Cross and Blue Shield to manage a corporate venture fund that invests in healthcare technology and technology-enabled services. Sandbox and the BCBS Venture Partners have joined to found Healthbox, an accelerator for healthcare-related startups which gives teams access to mentors, seed funding and office space. Healthbox’s first class began in January 2012.

Sandbox’s internally incubated companies include (but are not limited to) CakeStyle, doggyloot, Get Fresh Kit, Lab42, Lost Crates, and Marbles: The Brain Store.
