Ripl is a new Seattle-based startup that will be entering the “college only” social networking space. According to PEHub, they will also be a provider of ad-supported music and photo sharing services. The company is keeping the site in super private mode so if you want an invitation you need to get one from a student who has either a Univeristy of Washington or University of Central Florida email address.
Ripl’s founder Bill Messing used to be a former Classmates.com executive. In an interview with John Cook, Bill says that Ripl will succeed because the company “has designed a new advertising platform that allows users to choose their own sponsors and a technology that automatically publishes content to specific pages.”
College-based social networks include Bebo, Classmates.com, Facebook and Graduates.com.
