Renren Inc. (formerly Oak Pacific Interactive) is a leading next generation internet platform that provides web 2.0 communities, content creation and distribution, and integrated communication.
The company has built an array of leading online platforms Renren (the dominant social networking site focused on college students and whitecollar workers that is previously known as Xiaonei), mop.com (the largest entertainment portal) and donews.com (the leading IT blogging site) through organic growth and acquisition, and a fast growing online game business line including the biggest browser based MMORPG in China.
Renren.com is an online social network service that provides one of the largest interactive communication platforms for Chinese users. Embedded with functions like blogging, photo, and video sharing, renren.com has built an efficient platform for users to share their daily lives and thoughts with their friends.
In December 2005, xiaonei.com (later renamed to renren.com) was founded by Xing Wang and Huiwen Wang, who were college students at that time. In October 2006, xiaonei.com was acquired by China InterActive Corp, and then merged with 5Q Xiaoyuan, a subsidiary of China InterActive Corp, later in that year. On August 14, 2009, xiaonei.com was renamed to renren.com. In May 2011, renren.com was approved for listing on NASDAQ, succeeded in raising $700,000,000.
With the number of users reaching 200 million, renren.com now has over 30% of its traffic coming from mobile devices. Renren.com owns several subsidiary companies including Kaixin Farm and Nuomi. Its major competitor is kaixin001.com.
