Rebtel is a mobile VOIP company offering cheap long distance calling on mobile phones by changing given phone numbers to local numbers (rebtel numbers). There is no need to download anything which is a huge plus especially for mobile phone applications, yet the downside is that you are given a new phone number.

I call two different countries and just started using the service. It works very well and is really not confusing at all. Online you enter the number that you want to call and they give you a permanent local number associated with it. Save the number in your cell or home phone, dial it and that's it. No pins, no calling cards, no waits and very low rates. It works very well. The callback number is simply a permanent number local to the country that you entered a number to call to. I.e. if you call Spain you enter a number to call there, and they will give you a local number for the country as well that if someone there calls gets patched to your own telephone or cell. They pay for the local call, you pay based on the rate to the country that you were offered. There is nothing to it and the rates are low. I hope they stay around.

Greg Spector from Rebtel, here. First - thanks for checking us out. We're seeing a lot of growth right now. Especially calls to India and China. Traffic analytics, however, aren't a great way to judge our user base, since one of the big benefits of using Rebtel is you set up a local numbers to call friends abroad just once on the web site. You automatically get the number in an SMS, which you can save in your phone book. No need to come back to the web site. Anyway, we've been doing this since Summer '06. Our call volume is doubling every six weeks right now, which is very encouraging. We believe that's becuase we offer the best prices for international calls. And yes - to make a free call (what we call a Smart Call) requires that you jump through a hoop or two, but after you've done it once it becomes second nature. Again - thanks for checking us out.
