As Lifehacker describes it, ReadBurner, “turn[s] Google Reader sharing into an action similar to bookmarking a page on Del.icio.us or voting for an article on Digg.” Readburner claims that this approach to social news makes sharing interesting stories easier than ever, and adds a new level of democracy and transparency in determining what’s the most newsworthy.

Like other link shorteners, BurnURL lets users take a long URL and turn it into a short one, in the form of http://burnurl.com/bFuAHm. Users can do this either on the homepage or by using the company’s bookmarklet, which lets users “burn†a URL from anywhere.
When users click a BurnURL, a “ShareBar†provides links to share the story on popular social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and Digg, shows a hit count showing how many times the link has been visited, and displays options to vote the story up or down and see the overall rating from visitors.
