Rakuten, Inc. is Japan’s biggest online shopping mall operator. According to Alexa, Rakuten is the 5th most popular site in Japan with Amazon Japan following at No. 14.
The site currently lists over 35 million different items offered by 28,000 stores. It’s open to any brick and mortar store in Japan that wants to establish an online presence.
Founded in 1997, Rakuten went IPO at the Tokyo Stock Exchange two years later. The company currently has a market cap of $7.5 billion.
