Founded in 2005 by German entrepreneur Stephan Uhrenbacher, Qype is a Web 2.0 startup centered around social networking and local reviews.
Originally Qype operated solely in the German market, however it was soon extended to include most European cities, and in March 2007 Qype was awarded the Red Herring 100 Europe award.
In June 2007 Qype.co.uk was launched, thus adding English to the interface and content; and towards the end of 2007 the website was translated into French, for the launch of Qype.fr.
Qype currently has offices located in Hamburg, Paris, and London.

Qype is a social network based around user reviews of businesses and places.
Founded in 2005 by German entrepreneur Stephan Uhrenbacher, the site allows its users to browse a database of locations and see at a glance those which have been most favourably rated by the community.
Members of the site can add new places to the existing database, rate and review businesses, add videos and photos and engage with the community via message boards, groups and messaging.
The site also has a mobile version which can enables users to locate the top rated place near to a specified location.
