Introduced in 2006, Phonezoo.com has become the leading mobile entertainment website in the US. Its free to the end-users, ad-supported and profitable. Phonezoo is a ringtone service that lets you make your own ringtones, download them to your phone and share them with your friends. The site smartly gets around copyright issues by having users create ringtones using songs that they upload.
Phonezoo has received an undisclosed amount of angel funding led by Tim Draper.

Uploading audio files to PhoneZoo is super easy. It supports most formats including .mp3, .wav, .aac, .m4a, and .wma. This saves you the trouble of any complicated conversions.
Once you’ve uploaded your song you get to choose the starting and ending points by clicking and dragging markers. You can also enter starting and ending points manually if you already know the exact times. Users can enter their own song title, song description and tags to their created ringtones.
When you’re done creating your ringtone PhoneZoo sends the ringtone to your phone. Users have the choice to share created ringtones with their friends. If someone wants to download your song they have to first upload the exact song and PhoneZoo will transfer all the editing data (durations, starting and ending points etc) to their own uploaded song.
PhoneZoo users are able to publish their ringtones for the whole PhoneZoo community to download. Popular ringtones can be found on the PhoneZoo home page.
